Platform
A social network for musicians
By the SODAMNTUFF team · · 4 min read
A social network for musicians is a place where the music is the thing people react to, follow and share, instead of a clip of it. The profile belongs to a verified artist, the post is a track, and the conversation happens around the music: comments, shares, and live rooms where a host plays for everyone at once. That is what SODAMNTUFF is. Here is what that means in practice, and what it is not.
What it does that social media does not
On Instagram or TikTok, music is the soundtrack of someone else's video. The platform owns the attention, the feed decides what spreads, and the full track lives elsewhere. On a social network for musicians the full track is right there, with its cover art, credits, genre and language, on a page of its own that search engines can find. Listeners follow the artist, not a sound. And when an artist releases something, the room is live: a listening session where the host plays the music, everyone hears it in sync and talks in the chat or on the mic.
What it does that streaming does not
A streaming service is a catalogue. You can save a track, you cannot talk to the person who made it. Here every artist is a verified person with a profile, posts, events with RSVP and a direct line to the people listening. Uploads are reviewed by hand, so the catalogue stays small and every track belongs to a real artist who owns the rights to it.
What it is not
It is not a distributor and it does not pay streaming royalties. Artists upload to be heard and to build an audience, next to wherever they distribute. They keep all rights and can remove a track at any time; that is in the artist and user disclosure. Listening is free, and so is uploading for verified artists.
How the network is built
- Artists: verified profiles with singles, albums, posts and events. Browse them on the artists page, or start with Rishi Mayhs.
- Listeners: a free account to listen in full, follow artists, like and share tracks, message friends and keep playlists. Without an account, every track has a 30-second preview.
- Charts: the Top 10 counts what listeners actually did this week (most played, most liked, most shared) plus a curated chart, with a frozen page per week in the archive.
- Genres: every track lands on the genre pages its artist chose.
- Listening sessions: live rooms, open or private, with a shared queue, chat, mic and camera.
- Discovery mode: a queue of tracks you have not heard yet, shaped by what you play.
Who it is for
Independent and emerging artists who want a place to share finished work and grow a following, and listeners who would rather discover people than scroll playlists. Built in the Netherlands, in English, free for both. The longer version is in What is SODAMNTUFF?.
