How the Top 10 charts work

By the SODAMNTUFF team · · 3 min read

The Top 10 is the one part of the platform that refreshes itself. There are four charts, and they measure different things.

The four charts

  • Most played: plays counted in the player. A play is registered when the track starts.
  • Most liked: likes on the post that carries the track.
  • Most shared: reposts of that post by other members.
  • Curated: hand-picked by the SODAMNTUFF team.

How often they update

The charts are recalculated continuously and cached for five minutes, so a new like or play shows up within minutes. Only public tracks from verified artists are eligible.

The weekly archive

Every week the four charts are captured as a snapshot. The archive keeps a page per week, so you can see who led the charts in any given week even after the live chart has moved on. The current week keeps updating until it ends.

For artists

There is no trick to it: a track climbs when people play, like and share it. Posting the track to your feed with the audio attached is what makes it eligible for the liked and shared charts.
